A view on Fishing,Community and Life on the NW coast of Scotland

Our European Inn

As the political turmoil continues day by day it is very important to say that it is all about people, connections, welcomes. Even if we are making a bit of a pigs ear over the planet and climate, while it lasts, the least we can do is welcome visitors into our community whatever their politics. I am not sure why but flags are important symbols of identity so the first of the bunting goes up at the Inn, the 26 flags of the European union. Others may well join them when this mayhem settles down. They were greeted with smiles from the Germans sitting at the tables.

Brilliant! What a wonderful gesture. John’s just ordered a Saltire with the EU stars overlaid, for our garden flagpole – go up soon!

Although it is only a gesture i think an important one. Amongst all the busy times here you do make contact with some really interesting people who love this place, first timers and people who keep coming back…..last night it was a couple from Wisconsin and another from Atlanta. Makes it worth while.

  2. What a fantastic idea. We are all Europeans xx Love Liz

One World even but certainly Europeans and we are all immigrants.

  3. Yes, a wonderful gesture, well done. I’m sure the many visitors will really appreciate it. I’ll be in Applecross in 7 (long) weeks, I hope the turmoil of the past week will have settled and that we may know what path we are heading down by then.

Aye we may well be saying 7 weeks is a long time in politics. Chaotic times, every day has something new and it does seem to be a bit too self centred on the political “leaders” and their ambitions.
