A view on Fishing,Community and Life on the NW coast of Scotland

A quick and short one tonight but may be the most important for the year for Applecross. Spoke to Dr Dan about the practice and it seems to be working out well.  Over the last couple of months there have been lots of little snippets surfacing that we no longer have a doctor again but that is not the case. The last time I chatted to Dan was Novemberish and everything was going ahead but with a lot of uncertainty. Now the story is Dr Dan is going to take over the Applecross Practice in April and in the meantime he is going out to Kazakhstan…..that does not qualify him for the Inn country search….. for a month. He is taking over the Practice, as opposed to becoming a salaried doctor in conjunction with the Raigmore EPs, and now is already recruiting an associate to work with him. Yesterday I met his first potential work mate..laughed at Dan’s description of me but took it as tongue in cheek. I for one am not just relieved but genuinely pleased that Dan has taken this decision and I and the part of the community I know will wish him well in his stay here. I know a lot of rumours spring from uncertainty and fears but silence is a wonderful vehicle in a small community when there is nothing to say. Welcome again Dan.

Another piece of good news I heard today is Ali and Seonag’s little Shop in Camusteel has won through to the Scottish Final of the Counrtyside Alliance Awards in the Village Shop category They have made the last four, an achievement in itself.

Health could still be better so a bit of therapeutic baking was carried out this evening. Continuing my New Year resolution of not buying rubbish air bread in the shops. Means I have had a couple of days on the oatcakes. Has a “down home” feel to the post tonight.

I’m with you on the bread making, Ali

Always think as long as we still make our own bread (periodically!) we haven’t completely given up the ‘fight’…..keep posting the loaves!

It is good fun and dead easy when you have a Dan Lepard baking book to follow, more loaves this week looking at the forecast.
